Central warehouse and commercial administration, Valencienner Str. 11, 52355 Düren, Germany

The most important milestones: The roots of MACHEREY-NAGEL are in the field of filter paper, which today still presents a large portion of our production range. Experience gained during 90 years of manufacturing, enable MACHEREY-NAGEL, in addition to the versatile standard range, to fulfill many special customer's wishes concerning filtration. Filter papers are also the basis of other product ranges.

Thus the idea to impregnate filter papers with special chemicals formed the basis of our present product range Testing. "Simple impregnation" as for litmus paper or indicator papers was the first step. Consequent development of other methods of impregnation ond other ranges of application resulted in a range of indicator and test papers, which today is the largest world-wide: "from litmus paper to medical diagnostic test sticks". Thus we present today a unique product range from very simple screening tests up to photometric systems for highest demands in rapid analyses. Filter paper is the origin of MACHEREY-NAGEL's activities in the field of Chromatography, too. Special filter papers (chromatography papers) represent the oldest chromatographic method. All chromatographic procedures separate mixtures of compounds into their individual components. MACHEREY-NAGEL has been strongly engaged in the development of chromatography since the "childhood" of this Nobel prize winning technique. In Thin Layer Chromatography, the successor of Paper Chromatography, MACHEREY-NAGEL has always been one of the pioneers. In addition, MACHEREY-NAGEL was one of the first manufacturers of spherical silica for High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) , which is today known and esteemed world-wide under the tradename Nucleosil®. Today MACHEREY-NAGEL supplies a complete product line for chromatography: from sample preparation (filtration, solid phase extraction, derivatization) to the chromatographic separation itself with TLC products, LC, HPLC and GC columns. A versatile selection of chromatography accessories supplements our product range

Macherey-Nagel is a internationally operating mid-sized company with subsidiaries in: USA, France, United Kingdom and Switzerland. The world-wide presence of MACHEREY-NAGEL is guaranteed aside of the subsidiaries by distributors in more than 150 countries. Thus our customers can benefit from the advantages of our products in all parts of the world.

MACHEREY-NAGEL was founded in 1911 in Düren as a company for the production and distribution of special filter papers. The founders were Mr. Macherey, Mr. Nagel and Edmund Radmacher, the grandfather of the present owner. The company received vital impulses from the chemist Dr. ing. Adolf Radmacher, the son of the co-founder Edmund Radmacher, who presided the company from 1920 to his death in 1961. Since 1961 Edmund Radmacher, the son of Adolf Radmacher, manages the development of our company group. Starting at 01.01.2000 the forth generation of the family Radmacher in the person of Ms. Carolin Wagner actively leads the group of <MN>companies.

Since not all rapid tests can be performed with indicator or test paper MACHEREY-NAGEL developed wet-chemical reagent kits for visual as well as colorimetric evaluation: "from test papers to colorimetric systems". Chromatography is also the basis for our "youngest" product line, Bioanalysis. Nucleobond®, a silica-based anion exchanger, gives our customers an elegant tool for the purification of DNA (=deoxyribonucleic acid = carrier of the genetic information) and total RNA. In addition to this patented procedure, we offer other innovative products for the purification of DNA and RNA for our customers who work in the field of molecular biology.
